Steamboat Dining

Downtown restaurants

Off the mountain and into town. Steamboat's downtown dining scene punches well above its weight — from 30-year-old steakhouses to seasonal tasting menus that change every winter. These are the spots worth the drive (or walk).

FAMILY FRIENDLY

You pick your steak, then cook it yourself on a 20-foot lava rock grill — the whole place gets involved

The signature move: you choose your cut, then walk up to one of two 20-foot lava rock grills and cook it yourself with guidance from the staff. It's interactive, social, and the reason families keep coming back — kids are engaged instead of bored, adults get their steak exactly how they want it, and the whole dining room has a communal energy you won't find anywhere else. Dry-aged, free-range Angus: NY Strip $24, Bone-In Ribeye $55, Wagyu Kobe $47. Every entree includes bottomless family-style salad and Texas toast. Kids menu is $11 (corn dogs, mac & cheese, chicken tenders). Pair it with the 8th Street Old Fashioned — fat-washed bourbon with maple syrup ($16).

FAMILY FRIENDLY

The Ore House at the Pine Grove

50+ years in a converted 110-year-old barn — Steamboat's longest dining tradition

Certified Angus Beef hand-cut steaks and chops in a historic barn that showcases Steamboat's ranching heritage. The salad bar is a throwback in the best way — generous and included. Craft cocktails have leveled up in recent years. Families love the western atmosphere and the fact that kids are genuinely welcome.

FAMILY FRIENDLY

Salt & Lime

Authentic Mexican meets Tex-Mex — vibrant margaritas and tableside guac

Part of the Rex's Family of restaurants. Great for groups and families — the energy is high, the margaritas are strong, and the menu is deep enough that everyone finds something. Don't sleep on the tableside guac.

FAMILY FRIENDLY

Carl's Tavern

Wagyu Double Black Diamond burger, cast-iron everything, and the best whiskey list in town

Southern-inflected American comfort food done right. The Double Black Diamond burger (two Wagyu patties) is a local legend. Cast-iron cornbread, St. Louis ribs, and a whiskey/bourbon/tequila cocktail list that goes deep. Great atmosphere for families during dinner — transitions to a livelier bar scene later.

Special occasion dining

NOT IDEAL FOR YOUNG KIDS

Aurum Food & Wine

Steamboat's best riverfront dining — seasonal new American with a world-class wine list

Upscale but not pretentious. The riverfront setting is beautiful, and the seasonal menu showcases Colorado ingredients at their best. The lounge side is more casual if you want the food without the formality. Reservations highly recommended.

NOT IDEAL FOR YOUNG KIDS

The most creative concept in town. Every winter and summer, The Periodic Table transforms entirely — new theme, new menu, new identity. This winter's concept is Fjällen: New Nordic cuisine meets the Colorado Rockies. If you want a dining experience you literally can't get anywhere else (because it won't exist next season), this is it. Reservations essential.

NOT IDEAL FOR YOUNG KIDS

Laundry Kitchen & Cocktails

Small plates in a former laundry — house-infused vodkas, specialty tequilas, and serious cocktails

Set in the original Steamboat Laundry building, this is part of the Rex's Family empire. The small-plate format is perfect for sharing and exploring. House-infused vodkas and specialty tequila program are the standouts. The vibe is intimate, urban-rustic, and decidedly adult. One of the best-rated restaurants in town.

NOT IDEAL FOR YOUNG KIDS

Bésame

Latin-Spanish tapas with the best happy hour deal in Steamboat

Guava empanadas, patatas bravas, croquetas de jamón, grilled octopus, and Colorado lamb belly — all meant for sharing. Happy hour daily 4–5:30 PM: 50% off house cocktails and 30% off all tapas. The atmosphere is warm, romantic, and adult-oriented. Perfect for date night.

Casual & craft

Table 79 Foodbar

Elevated comfort food with an eclectic edge — potato-wrapped salmon and Korean short rib

A local favorite that doesn't get the tourist buzz it deserves. Burrata salad, tuna poke, grilled oysters to start — then potato-wrapped salmon or Korean short rib with kimchi fried rice. Creative without being pretentious, and the service is excellent.

LOCAL EMPIRE

Rex's Family of Restaurants

Chef Rex Brice's locally owned restaurant group — one kitchen philosophy, seven concepts

Rex Brice built Steamboat's most prolific restaurant group from scratch. If you eat at Salt & Lime (Mexican), Laundry (small plates + cocktails), Mazzola's (Italian), Big House Burgers, Creekside Cafe (breakfast), or Lil House Country Biscuits, you're eating Rex's. The quality is consistently high across the board — the group's buying power and shared kitchen talent keep every concept sharp. Family-friendly at most locations.
